Mambo and Danzon dance forms. By the 1950’s, the dance form made its way to the United States
where it further evolved its own personality and unique flavour, widely gaining its place on the dance
floor under the name “Cha-Cha-Cha”. The dance quickly grew in popularity and by the 1960’s, people
began dropping the third “Cha” and the dance became frequently known and accepted as the “Cha Cha”.
Whether you are attending a party or ready for your next vacation, the Cha Cha is the perfect dance
for any dance event.

The Iqaluit Social Dance Club will be offering the elegant Waltz as the next dance form in beginner
lessons. The Waltz was once known as the “Forbidden Dance” as it was thought to be a little risqué
as it shocked the then polite society. It was ostracized on moral grounds due to its close-hold
embracing couples and turning movements. Religious leaders regarded it as vulgar and sinful, and
the dance was criticized to the point where people were threatened with death from waltzing. It
later grew to become the most highly revered dance form in the nineteenth century and is still the
most popular ballroom dance form today. Whether you are attending a ball, wedding, or going to a
masquerade, the Waltz is the perfect dance for any formal event.

The Leandler (or Ländler) is an old folk dance. It is danced in 3/4 time and evolved from the early 17th century's Minuet. The Leandler became very popular in Austria, south Germany, German Switzerland, and Slovenia at the end of the 18th century. This dance later evolved into the Viennese Waltz, and finally what we know today as the standard North American Waltz. Today, the Leandler can be seen performed at formal events such as Weddings, Balls, and Masquerades.
A South-East Asian Folkloric Dance from the Philippines. This was and in some circles still is, the national dance of the Philippines. Singkil has since rivaled for the title of the country's national dance. Tinikling is performed by a minimum of 4 people. 2 people (or more) control bamboo poles which are slammed against each other to the rhythm of the music. The other 2 people (or more) dance between the poles without getting hit by the bamboo poles.
Caution: The Tinikling dance is dangerous to learn and may cause serious injury.
